VU041 is a mosquito cuticle penetrant, potent and selective inhibitor of inwardly rectifying potassium (Kir) channel of Aedes aegypti (AeKir1) and Anopheles gambiae (AnKir1) that exhibits potent toxicity to adult insecticide-susceptible and -resistant strains of female mosquitoes. VU041 is selective for mosquito Kir channels over several mammalian orthologs. Also, VU041 is toxic to mosquito larvae when present in water.
