UAP1 (UDP-GlcNAc pyrophosphorylase-1) is an essential enzyme in the biosynthesis of UDP-GlcNAc through regulating the process from UTP and GlcNAc1P to pyrophosphate and UDP-GlcNAc or its reverse form. UAP1L1 (UAP1 like 1) is a protein with 59% sequence similarity as UAP1. UAP1L1 is located on human chromosome 9q34.3. The UAP1L1 gene is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, and frog. 203 organisms have orthologs with human gene UAP1L1. Considering the important role played by glycosylation in various biological processes and the involvement of changes in protein glycosylation in malignant tumors, it was predicted that UAP1L1 would also participate in the development and progression of human cancers.
