The spermatogenesis associated serine rich 2 (SPATS2), which is predicted as a cytoplasmic RNA-binding protein, is initially discovered in testis and plays an important role in spermatogenesis. Spermatogenesis associated serine rich 2 (SPATS2) is most expressed in adult testis and slightly expressed in liver and other tissues. SPATS2 is involved in sperm development, and subsequently found that it promotes the progression of prostate cancer. SPATS2 has a basic amino acid-rich region, is rich in serine residues, and contains 4 predicted N-glycosylation sites. SPATS2 was identified as a novel diagnostic biomarker in squamous cell carcinoma. SPATS2 is associated with colorectal, prostate and liver cancer.
