The CCDC90B (coiled-coil domain containing 90B) gene, located on 11q14.1, is conserved in chimpanzee, Rhesus monkey, dog, cow, mouse, rat, chicken, zebrafish, and frog. An important paralog of this gene is MCUR1. The encoded protein is characterized by the presence of a domain of the unknown function, DUF1640. This domain is a characteristic of the entire protein except for the first twenty-three amino acid residues - MNSRQAWRLFLSQGRGDRWVSRP - which are a mitochondrial targeting site and cleaved. The protein is predicted to contain at least three specific phosphorylation sites: Protein Kinase C Phosphorylation sites, Casein Kinase II Phosphorylation sites, and cAMP/cGMP Dependent Phosphorylation sites. CCDC90B is commonly expressed in the testis, adrenal glands, and 25 other tissues. Diseases associated with CCDC90B include Oculoauricular Syndrome and Osteochondrosis.
